Netherlands Income Tax Calculator (2026)
Netherlands
A Dutch salary offer where the headline Box 1 rate is misleading without both tax credits.
Dutch headline rates are not the final bill. For employees below AOW age, 2026 Box 1 rates include national insurance, then the algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting reduce the tax substantially before phasing out as income rises. This salary-only calculator shows the tax before credits, each credit, the final amount, and take-home pay.

The operator’s read
Good sign
The two tax credits remove €7,812 from the headline Box 1 bill: €16,198 before credits becomes €8,386 after them. A bracket-only calculator would overstate your tax by that amount.
Caution
This is a salary-only estimate for someone below AOW age throughout 2026. It excludes deductible home costs, entrepreneur rules, Box 2 and Box 3 income, partner allocation, the 30% ruling, benefits and payroll contributions outside the Box 1 rates.
Methodology
Apply the 2026 Box 1 combined income-tax and national-insurance rates for a person below AOW age: 35.75% to €38,883, 37.56% from €38,883 to €78,426, and 49.50% above.
Subtract the 2026 algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting calculated from employment income. Credits cannot reduce this estimate below zero; both phase out as income rises.
Scope: gross employment income only, below AOW age throughout 2026. Deductions, other tax boxes, fiscal partners, benefits and the 30% ruling require additional facts and are not guessed here.
Questions
- Why is Dutch tax lower than the Box 1 rate times salary?
- Because tax credits reduce the calculated tax. In 2026 the general tax credit can be up to €3,115 and the employment tax credit up to about €5,685 before they phase out.
- Does this include the Dutch 30% ruling?
- No. Use the linked 30% ruling checker first; if eligible, the taxable salary may be lower than the gross salary entered here.
- Does this work after reaching AOW age?
- No. AOW-age taxpayers have different first-bracket rates and credit amounts, including month-specific rules in the year they reach AOW age.
